| Background | NCI-H295R cells are derived from pluripotent adrenocarcinoma cell lines NCI-H295 cells. The latter was isolated from an adrenal cortex tumor in a 48-year-old black woman. NCI-H295 cell changed culture conditions to reduce the population doubling time from 5 days to 2 days to obtain NCI-295R cells. NCI-295 cells grow suspended, while NCI-H295R cells grow in a single layer. NCI-H295R cells retain the ability to produce androgens and respond to angiotensin II and potassium ions. NCI-H295R cells can be used in 3D cell culture and cancer research. |
