| Background | Tridodecanoin under alkaline conditions undergoes a saponification reaction to produce glycerol and fatty acid salts. Glycerol reacts with sodium periodate to form formaldehyde, which in turn condenses with acetylacetone and ammonia to form yellow 3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydrolutidine, a compound with a maximum absorption peak at 412 nm. |
